Born in Manchester in 1976, I attended Manchester High School for Girls, Staffordshire University and Bury College. Moving to London to work in sales in August 2000 I quickly found a job working for Skin Two magazine. In my eight years there, I spent the first five working under editor Tony Mitchell, formerly a senior writer on legendary music magazine Sounds and author of two photography books for Carlton. In my time at Skin Two I gained experience in office management, event production and promotion, consulted on a first season episode of CSI, interviewed the League of Gentlemen’s Mark Gatiss and made appearances on Granada TV, BBC radio and TalkSport. This also led to my first commission, rewriting and editing text for Manchester based Pierce Artist.
Looking for a fresh challenge I left Skin Two in November 2008 and took a position as office manager/proofreader for Ignite Hospitality. Operating from the same office I took on work for a record label, Imprint Music, and I assisted the label manager on the release of the Senser album, How To Do Battle, writing website copy and email newsletters. This culminated in a trip to Bulgaria, acting as the band’s manager at an all day multi-band bill. The positive work and press gained from magazines such as Kerrang during that time resulted in the band securing a slot at the 2010 Download Festival.
I worked as a sub-editor for the Tenant Services Authority, proofing a wide variety of documents about social housing, from August 2009 until October 2010, when the organisation was discontinued. Since then I have been working for various clients, including, most recently, acting as offline producer for Couleur 3 the national Swiss radio station, on a weeklong project about Serge Gainsbourg. I was also recently employed as a freelance sub-editor for Foreplay magazine.
I write gig reviews on Manchester Music and continue to proof collateral for Ignite. I also edited the recent animal-themed book by famed gossip newsletter Popbitch. Examples of all these can be found on the Work page.
In my spare time I love to go to gigs – attending over 200 shows throughout Europe and America – and travel. I have visited America, Ireland, France, Germany, Holland, Israel, Switzerland, Spain and Denmark.
